TransAlta named as a finalist for the Edison Electric Institute Edison award

CALGARY, Alberta– TransAlta Corporation (TSX:TA; NYSE:TAC) was today named by the Edison Electric Institute as a finalist for the organization’s highest award.

The Edison award honors “distinguished leadership, innovation and contribution to the advancement of the electric industry for the benefit of all,” and is presented annually to one U.S. and one international electric company selected from members of the Edison Electric Institute, the association of shareholder-owned electric companies.

TransAlta has been shortlisted for this prestigious award by a panel of industry trade publishers and editors and is now one of two nominees in the international category.

TransAlta is being recognized for its effort to bring industry and government together to build Project Pioneer, one of the world’s first and largest fully-integrated carbon capture and storage (CCS) facilities for a coal-fired power plant.

Winners of the Edison award will be announced during the Edison Electric Institute’s Annual Convention and Expo which runs June 13 – 16 in Hollywood, Florida.
