A beautiful weekend led to lower daily settles, but the overall week settled similar to the previous. The supply
cushion was tight in numerous hours causing the week to settle 3% lower at $90.75/MWh. Weekly settles are
expected to be lower with the cooler forecasted temperatures. However, the previous high settles are continuing
to put upward pressure on forwards, up an average $1.00/MWh.
Gas prices settled consistent week over week as well, 1% higher at $1.70/GJ. With no major restrictions on any
export gates, prices are expected to remain in this range heading into June.
Announced early this morning, the Liberal government will buy the Trans Mountain pipeline for $4.5 billion.
Finance Minister Bill Morneau said, “Make no mistake, this is an investment in Canada’s future.” The news comes
extremely close to the May 31 deadline set by Kinder Morgan.
