TransAlta customers warned of a scam

You may have recently received a phone call or letter claiming to be from TransAlta suggesting legal action and removal of a smart meter for nonpayment. This is a scam. It is not an official TransAlta communication and its origin is presently being reviewed. If you have received the above-mentioned email or telephone call, you can contact the authorities at 403-266-1234 and provide them with a copy of the message or details of the call.
TransAlta will never contact you by email and ask you to provide or confirm personal details or confidential information by clicking on a link, completing a form, or calling a phone number included in an email. Additionally, we do not own the physical metering infrastructure and would never suggest we will be removing or changing physical metering at any location. This infrastructure is owned and operated by your local distribution company.
