Innovating in solar power education through SAIT partnership

TransAlta is proud to be part of innovative renewable energy education at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Eight years ago, the Electrical Engineering Technology program launched a plan to commission a solar photovoltaic (PV) demonstration system for applied research and training. Through TransAlta’s funding towards the SAIT-TransAlta Applied Research and Training (START) Solar program, the project was launched and commissioned in March 2010. The project includes three different types of PV technology available in Canada with a five-kilowatt total power generation capacity. Located on the rooftop directly above the Power Engineering lab in the Thomas Riley building, the PV systems provide renewable energy research and training for students. We look forward to future renewable energy education possibilities!
