United Way ”Thanks a Million Award” - 2001-2012

TransAlta continues to be an active supporter of the United Way in Canada, the United States, and Australia, with employee-driven campaigns at locations across our fleet. Oilweek & ATB Financial awards - 2008, 2012

In 2012 TransAlta acheived: Best in Class for Editorial/Graphic design, and Best in Class for Financial Statements & Analysis for our 2011 Annual Report.
In 2008 we achieved: Best in Class for Editorial/Graphic design; Best in Class for Financial Statements & Analysis; and the Apex Award for best overall annual report across 13 divisions of competitors, for our 2007 Annual Report.

Plant of the Year Award - 2013

On December 3, 2012, the Powder River Basin Coal Users’ Group named TransAlta’s Centralia plant in the U.S. Pacific Northwest as '2013 Plant of the Year'. Centralia was up against hundreds of coal plants throughout the United States after someone from outside of the company nominated the plant for the honour. The award is bestowed on coal plants for continuous improvement, implementation of industry best practices, and an exemplary environmental and safety record.
 

Evergreen Award - 2012

On January 14, 2012 TransAlta was awarded the 2011 Evergreen Award by the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber gives the award every other year to a business that supports community organizations, as well as the local business community. Dow Jones North American Sustainability Index - 2010, 2011

The DJSI (North America) selects the top 20 per cent of companies in each sector according to sustainability practices out of the 600 largest North American companies. Visit their website.
 

Hydro Hall of Fame Award - 2011

Our Horseshoe hydroelectric facility was awarded the 2011 Hydro Hall of Fame Award from Hydro Review. The Hydro Hall of Fame was established in 1995 and recognizes hydro achievement throughout North America, with a special emphasis on long-lasting hydro facilities. This recognition demonstrates the significant and enduring contributions of hydroelectric plants like our 100-year-old Horseshoe facility. Read more.

On October 5, 2010, TransAlta was named one of the 15 Carbon Disclosure Leaders in Canada by the Carbon Disclosure Project, making this the second time TransAlta received this prestigious international award. View press release here.
