TransAlta has been a recognized environmental leader for more than a decade. Our goal is to continue to demonstrate that sustainable development is a core value of our business by:
- Delivering net reductions in greenhouse gases and reducing our environmental footprint
- Striving to achieve world-class safety performance by eliminating workplace injury incidents
- Enhancing the environmental component of our Environment Health and Safety Management System to meet ISO 14001 standards, and upgrading our health and safety programs to meet OHSAS 18001 standards
- Facilitating responsible and credible public consultation
- Participating in national and provincial processes to develop public policy
- Providing open and concise public reports of our progress annually
- Applying more rigorous standards in our public reporting.

TransAlta has been selected as a member company on the Dow Jones North American Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for three consecutive years. Inclusion in the DJSI is granted exclusively to companies that lead their industries in the pursuit of sustainability by setting standards for best practice and demonstrating superior environmental, social and economic performance.
