Proposed Projects

As we transition off-coal to become Canada’s leading clean power company, we are looking at growing our renewables platform by competing for contracts in renewables RFPs in our core markets.

Some of these projects include:

Cowley Ridge Wind Repower Project

After a long and productive life of 23 years, the Cowley Ridge Wind Farm was retired and dismantled in 2016.

Recognizing the many positive attributes that this site holds; from its desirable wind resource, environmental suitability and proximity to transmission; TransAlta believes it is fitting to repower this site to continue its legacy in providing clean, affordable and reliable wind power to Albertans. In doing so, the Cowley Ridge Wind Farm will be the first wind farm to be repowered in Canada.
