We work closely with the Paul First Nation, as they are located so closely to our Alberta coal operations. Here are two examples of this ongoing relationship:
On August 26, we carried on an annual tradition of a Friendship Golf Tournament at the Ironhead Golf Tournament. This tournament between TransAlta representatives and Paul First Nation employees and members signifies the importance of the relationship between Paul First Nation and TransAlta. As long standing neighbours, we have a variety of ways we can work together. This golf tournament started in the days of Fred Lindsey, who is a former TransAlta employee, and now an MLA. A fun time was had by all. Contact Janet if you would like to be considered as a golfer in the 2011 tournament.
On April 28th, 2010, TransAlta hosted the Transmission Advisory group at Blackfoot Crossing (Siksika). This advisory group meets annually to discuss issues and concerns with the Transmission lines owned by TransAlta (operated by Altalink) that cross First Nation lands. Alberta is the only province in whichTransAlta owns transmission lines, and mainly in regard to lines that cross thirteen reserves in this province, including Paul First Nation. Members of all 13 First Nations are invited to attend the meeting each year. This year our topics were community leadership, tariff filing, annual maintenance program and a presentation by Blood Tribe’s GIS/GPS Management and by Siksika’s Land Management system. Councillor Jason Rain represented Paul First Nation at this meeting.
