A 46-megawatt uprate at TransAlta's Keephills facility is scheduled for completion between 2011-2012. Currently, our Keephills plant can produce a capacity of 766 MW.
A power plant often has a life-span of 40 years or more and typically, during that time, there is an opportunity to retrofit the plant with new technologies for optimal efficiency – meaning the highest electricity production and lowest emissions and costs possible.
A third generation unit - Keephills 3 - is also being built at our Keephills site in partnership with Capital Power.
The Keephills power plant is our second largest coal-fired electrical generating facility and is located approximate 70 kilometers west of Edmonton, Alberta.
The original Keephills plant was commissioned in 1983.
