TransAlta is helping meet the growing appetite for electric power while minimizing the environmental impact of doing so. We are Canada’s largest publicly-traded generator and marketer of electricity and renewable power. We have one of the best green growth portfolios, and the expansion of our renewable resources will remain a priority in the years ahead. TransAlta generates renewable energy by harnessing some of the best renewable energy sources on earth – hydro, wind and geothermal assets – and directs that power to the local electricity grid.
We are investing in ways to further cut emission and we are regularly recognized for our sustainable approach to business, the environment and the communities we serve. For more information, click here.
Yes, TransAlta offers Renewable Energy Options. When our customers buy renewable energy, they are buying the assurance that clean energy will be supplied for a certain number of megawatt hours. This purchase displaces emissions from coal and gas-fired generation, lowering air contaminants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and greenhouse gases. Renewable energy is certified and tracked by independent third parties that verify the source, quality and amount of correlating clean energy. TransAlta sells Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Carbon Offsets. For more information, click here.
