Green Energy® is electrical power derived from our clean, renewable energy sources. TransAlta generates Green Energy by harnessing one of the best renewable energy sources on earth – the wind - and directs that power to the local electrical grid on behalf of commercial customers.
When our customers buy Green Energy, they're buying the assurance that clean, renewable wind energy will be supplied to the Power Pool for a certain number of megawatt hours. This purchase displaces emissions from coal and gas-fired generation, lowering air contaminants such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and greenhouse gases. Green Energy is certified and tracked by independent third parties that verify the source, quality and amount of correlating clean energy.
TransAlta sells Green Energy products on a wholesale basis to corporate customers, green power resellers and utilities.
