TransAlta’s safety management systems are based on the OHSAS 18001 framework. Safety audits are conducted at regular intervals, in conjunction with environment audits. Leading indicators are reported on a monthly basis, including the number of planned inspections, incident investigation progress and hazard/near miss cards that are submitted, and per cent of mandatory training and health tests that are complete.
Communities were the focus of ongoing consultation efforts through the year, particularly those with facilities we acquired in 2009. TransAlta’s goal is to be open and proactive in community engagement, and receptive to ideas and concerns.
In 2009, a review of base pay and benefits was undertaken, to ensure TransAlta’s practices are aligned with those of the market. We also focused on development and training programs for employees.
